Fire Education Programs

Fire Extinguisher Demonstration (Target Audience: adults)

This is a practical demonstration of the correct techniques for use of fire extinguishers. After a film and instructions have been given, a small fire is set in a tub and Fire Prevention personnel demonstrate how to extinguish the fire. The group members are encouraged to use the fire extinguisher. This program is aimed at adult audiences especially in industrial, restaurant, hotel, hospital and other commercial occupancies. Dallas Fire-Rescue provides all equipment except for the fire extinguishers.

Fire Safety House (Target Audience: children ages 5-10)

This mobile house is used to train children in kitchen burn prevention, smoke detector use and proper escape techniques. A smoke detector, imitation smoke and flashing lights simulate a fire situation. Children are guided through proper evacuation procedures.

Requirements: 150 children & 4 hour minimum.

Juvenile Firesetter Intervention Program (Target Audience: Ages 2 -17 with repeated fire play behavior)

This program is available to children who have demonstrated fire play behavior. Our goal is to address and deter this risky behavior through assessment, education and referral, if needed. By providing children with education on fire safety and on the risk associated with playing with fire, they learn to understand the consequences and to make better decisions.

Requirements: 150 children & 4 hour minimum.

Hazard House (Target Audience: adults & seniors)

The Hazard House is a portable house which addresses many hazards that are found in many homes including fire, electrical, firearms, carbon monoxide, household hazardous and flammable materials storage, among others. The Hazard House allows the fire officer to teach the principles of home safety in an interactive format where the audience and fire officer find and correct the hazards together. This activity is available for indoor events only and requires a nearby electrical outlet.

High Rise/Office Fire Safety (Target Audience: tenants/employees)

This program includes a discussion of the fire plan, alarm system and evacuation procedures for the particular building as well as the proper use of a fire extinguisher.

Home Fire Safety (Target Audience: adults)

This presentation covers the causes of fire, prevention of fires, escape planning and special concerns such as fire safety related to the elderly and handicapped. This program also addresses escaping from a multi-story building. Civic groups, tenant associations, crime watch groups and PTA organizations can benefit from this program.

Sparky Puppet Show (Target Audience: children ages 3-6)

Sparky and a Fire Prevention Officer teach children fire safety in an entertaining way. This program covers home fire drills, smoke detectors, calling 911, and stop drop and roll. Program is approximately 30 minutes. For large groups 2 microphones are requested.
