The mission of the Media
Relations Office is to establish and maintain a communications
link between the public and the Dallas Fire-Rescue Department.
This is accomplished through a working relationship with various
media sources and through partnerships with both community and
business organizations. By using these resources to disseminate
information, the public gains a better understanding of our
operations and in turn, instills trust and reassurance to the
residents of the City of Dallas.
Public Information Officers
(PIO), uniformed members who have received special media relations
training, staff the Media Relations Office. PIOs serve as the
department’s spokespersons at the scene of all major incidents and
significant events. While it is possible for the media to get
their story without the PIOs, more accurate news reports are made
possible by the presence of these uniformed members. And since
PIOs are familiar with our department’s operations, policies and
strategies, they can quickly answer any concerns and questions
that the media may have.
The Media Relations Office
also publishes the department’s statistical brochure and the
online Activity Reports. These publications serve to keep the
public and city officials informed of the department’s activities
on an annual basis. By taking advantage of the Internet presence,
the Activity Report allows immediate access to statistical
information that may be helpful to local, national and
international organizations, particularly those involved in the
fire service.
DFR Media
Relations is the centralized Intake point for all open
record/freedom of information act requests.
