Fire station #17 opened on September 18, 1970. It has 2 full bays , 1/2 bay and contains 6,600 square feet.

Station #17 opened with a truck and engine (one of the City's first four cab forwards) from the old station. A new truck arrived in January, 1981, and an ambulance was added in October 1972, when DFD began Emergency Medical Service.

The first Fire Station #17 was located at Lewis and Greenville Avenue.

Station 17 has consistently collected more money for MDA during the annual "Dallas Firefighters- Fill the Boot for Muscular Dystrophy drive" than any other station in Dallas. In 2001 Station 17 collected more than any other station in the United States.

Category 1 - Station Safety/Security	Exterior Doors and Locks	Combination lock on back door works sometimes, but not often. Needs to be replaced. The lock has been worked on several times.

Bedroom	Bedding (Includes mattresses, pillows, sheets, etc.)	All mattresses and box springs need to be replaced. If we had room it would be nice to do away with pull down beds.
Kitchen	Small Appliances (Toaster, blender, etc.)	Blender, microwave oven.
Family Room	Recliners	10 recliners would be great!!
Family Room	Television	Large screen- HD TV.
Offices	Copier/Scanner	Copier-Printer
Offices	Desk	Larger watch desk area.
