| Fire station #17 opened on September 18, 1970. It has 2 full bays , 1/2
bay and contains 6,600 square feet. Station #17 opened with a truck and engine (one of the City's first four cab forwards) from the old station. A new truck arrived in January, 1981, and an ambulance was added in October 1972, when DFD began Emergency Medical Service. The first Fire Station #17 was located at Lewis and Greenville Avenue. Station 17 has consistently collected more money for MDA during the annual "Dallas Firefighters- Fill the Boot for Muscular Dystrophy drive" than any other station in Dallas. In 2001 Station 17 collected more than any other station in the United States. |
