Dallas Fire-Rescue is proud to announce the opening of replacement Fire Station 34 in Pleasant Grove.  The new facility replaces the old station located a few blocks away, which has served the community since 1953.  The new station was officially placed  in service at 7:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2002.  The station houses Engine 34, Truck 34, Rescue 34 and Battalion Chief 8.

There have been many changes at #34 through the years. "Why I remember when you could look down Lake June Road and it was nothing but a vacant field," tells Captain Charles Davis who has since retired.  "Not much business. Little traffic." Now Lake June Road, as well as all of the Grove, is dotted with businesses and houses.

Other changes through the years include the type of calls Station #34 responds to. In the early days, most engine calls were for grass, brush and house fires. Now, the majority of engine runs are to assist the Rescue.

Station #34 has been involved fighting exciting fires both as a first alarm company and on multiple alarms. Davis particularly remembers a three alarm fire in January 1975 at the Superior Coats Company on Hawn Freeway, in which highly flammable substances were involved. Another unforgettable fire (Station #34 responded as second up companies) was a five alarm apartment blaze on February 26, 1984, at the Golden Rule Apartments, 8201 Scyene Road. High winds spread the fire which resulted in $2,007,000 loss.

Another memorable incident was an automobile running off the road into Hatton Creek. Gasoline ignition seriously burned two firefighters, ED Ryer and Larry Roberts. Also at that accident, W. H. McCommas suffered a heart attack.
