Station Number #56      Companies Assigned
Council District 11
7040 Beltline Road
Engine 56
Battalion 2
updated   12/03/2008

On September 12, 1971, Station #56 opened to serve North Dallas. It is unique in that it shares its location, Fretz Park, with a Branch Library, Swimming Pool and Recreation Center. This station has 4,390 feet and 2½ bays housing an engine Company and a Battalion Chief.

In the past, #56 had the reputation of being a "retirement home." When the station opened in 1971, the population for the entire district, according to 1970 census data, was approximately 25,000 people. The 1980 census showed an astounding climb to more than 56,000 people.

This tremendous growth in population has created a traffic problem outside the station. During rush hour traffic, running Code 3 is an "amazing feat."
